Safe refuge for women: The new SAFE POINT at the Autumn Festival!

The Autumn Festival in Erding, one of the most popular folk festivals in Bavaria, is starting this year with a special offer. The SAFE POINT, a refuge for women and girls, is once again set up in the entrance area of the festival this year. The hut is located in the direction of the swimming pool/ice rink and opens its doors especially on the busiest days, namely Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to midnight. The initiative, which was launched last year, is intended to offer protection and support and was launched by city councilors such as Helga Stieglmeier, Petra Bauernfeind and Verena Comperl.

Four dedicated helpers are available at the SAFE-POINT, including Steffi Irmscher-Grothen, the head of the BRK women's areas, as well as volunteer supporters. These employees wear conspicuous vests with the words “Women’s Emergency Call” on them, making them easy to spot. Their goal is to offer women and girls a safe place and protect them from potential attacks.

What is on offer?

The SAFE-POINT scores with a wide range of services. This includes emotional support and practical help such as:

  • Beratung und Unterstützung für einen gesicherten Heimweg
  • Bereitstellung von Hygieneartikeln, Blasenpflastern und Getränkeaufsicht
  • Kostenloses Laden von Handys und Ausgeben von Silikondeckeln zum Schutz vor K.O.-Tropfen
  • Busfahrpläne zur besseren Orientierung
  • Kinderarmbänder mit der Telefonnummer der Eltern für verlorene Kinder

The SAFE-POINT serves as a retreat, especially in times of high visitor numbers and alcohol consumption. “It is important that girls and women know that they can find support here,” explains Steffi Irmscher-Grothen. She also encourages you to contact the team if you have any suspicions. Citizens are also invited to keep a close eye on the situation.

Outside opening hours

If problems arise outside of SAFE-POINT opening hours, the police and public order office are available. The women's emergency hotline can be reached around the clock on the telephone numbers 08122 / 5537790 and 08122 / 5537791 and also offers anonymous advice.

The city of Erding also plays a central role in this project by providing the SAFE POINT hut and supporting the initiative in collaboration with the public order office and the police. A big thank you also goes to the volunteers whose commitment is crucial to the success of SAFE-POINT.

The director also recommends using the free Safe Now app for girls and women. This makes it possible to send an alarm at the push of a button in an emergency, even if the cell phone is in “Do Not Disturb” mode. This shows once again how important personal safety is and that you can rely on innovative solutions to ensure this.

The initiative has already proven itself in the past and is viewed by the organizers as an important part of the Erdinger Autumn Festival. For anyone who would like to support this worthwhile service, donations to the women's emergency hotline and the women's shelter in the Erding district are always welcome. Visit the SAFE-POINT and show that you care about the safety of women and girls.

In summary, the SAFE POINT at the Erdinger Autumn Festival shows how important it is to ensure the safety and well-being of women and girls. Those responsible definitely have a good hand for such initiatives, and it remains to be hoped that many visitors will take advantage of these valuable offers.
