Magnificent Advent concert in Erding: women's choir impresses with Britten!

Today, December 7, 2025, there is both musical and sporting news that is keeping the region busy.

Concert by the Erding Parish Cecilia Association

In a few days, on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, December 14th, 2025, a very special concert by the Erding Parish Cecilia Association will take place at 5 p.m. The parish church of St. Johannes becomes the venue for the performance of “A Ceremony of Carols” by the composer Benjamin Britten. Georg Rothenaicher, who is respected in the region as a cultural prize winner, takes over the management.

The work, which was composed in 1942 for a three-part women's choir, consists of nine songs inspired by medieval Christmas tunes. The performance is framed by introductions and excerpts based on Gregorian chant verses. A special highlight is Max Reger's fantasy about the chorale “Wake up, call us the voice,” which Rothenaicher will play on the impressive Rieger organ. He will be supported by Barbara Pöschl-Edrich, who will enrich the evening with the sounds of the harp. Admission to this contemplative event is free, although donations for church music in St. Johannes Erding are warmly welcomed. A great opportunity for all music lovers to get in the mood for the upcoming holidays.

Sporty reviews and outlooks

While anticipation is growing in the music scene, there was a disappointing performance for the Atlanta Falcons in the sports world. On Sunday they lost against the Seattle Seahawks with a clear 9-37. The game was still tied at 6-6 at halftime. In the second half of the game, however, the Seahawks were able to score 31 points, while the Falcons were only able to score three points.

Kirk Cousins, the Falcons' quarterback, had to put up with two interceptions, and Bijan Robinson couldn't help the team either because he had a fumble. The setback for the Falcons came especially early in the second half when they gave up a 100-yard touchdown run. In the fourth quarter, Cooper Kupp scored another touchdown for the Seahawks and the Falcons were only able to cut the lead to 23-9 with a field goal from Zane Gonzalez. With this loss, the Falcons now have a record of 4-9.

A look into the event industry

Interestingly, the music and events industry is booming in Germany. Every second German audience attends music events at least occasionally, which shows how firmly anchored live events are in leisure activities. The popularity ranges from small club concerts to large festivals - worldwide. In 2024 alone, live events generated record revenues of over $9.5 billion.

Music festivals are particularly popular during the summer months. One example is the impressive Wacken Open Air, which became the most visited festival in Germany with 85,000 visitors. Such events are not only a cultural expression, but also an economic factor that strengthens the cultural and creative industries in Germany.

With this in mind, the upcoming Parish Cecilia Association concert is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local music scene and celebrate the anticipation of Christmas. We can also hope that the Falcons can get back on the road to success in the coming games.
