250 years of the fire department: Moosinning is celebrating a historic anniversary!
What an occasion in Moosinning and Eichenried! A special anniversary is being celebrated to mark 250 years of fire service history. Without question, this is an achievement worth celebrating. This forward-looking and traditional institution not only has historical roots, but also an important role in society.
The history of the fire department goes back to Roman times. As early as 21 BC there was the first fire department with 600 slaves who were responsible for fire protection. Firefighting equipment developed over the centuries, from buckets and ladders to modern extinguishing agents, while in the Middle Ages communities were obliged to organize fire protection. The first volunteer fire department in its current form was founded in Meißen in 1841, which represented a decisive change in firefighting. Today there are over 4,500 volunteer fire departments in Germany, most of which consist of volunteers, as academic.ru explains.
The roots of the Moosinning fire department
The creation of the Moosinning Volunteer Fire Department is in an interesting context. The government of Upper Bavaria decided to establish such fire departments as early as December 1873, but the beginning was anything but easy. Many districts initially did not show much enthusiasm, and the district office reminded Mayor Wolfgang Eschbaumer von Moosinning in June 1875 that the founding had been promised but not yet implemented. Finally, the fire department was founded on June 24, 1875, with 50 founding members. A really successful opening chapter!
In the following years the number of members grew; in 1876 the club already had 70 men. The fire department played a crucial role in the life of the community, but unfortunately had to be temporarily disbanded during the war years. In 1951 there was a new beginning, but it was never approved by the district office. The Moosinning Fire Department was only founded again in 1981, and since then the club has enjoyed growing popularity with today 80 active members. A real success when you consider that the founding of a youth fire department in 2010 was also able to sustainably promote young talent.
Historical milestones and features
A significant element in the history of the fire department in Moosinning is the fire station. The first documented building was built in 1859, but in 1888 it had to give way to a new keeper's house and fire house. A modern equipment house was finally inaugurated on September 14, 1986, and the inauguration ceremony was organized by Pastor Alois Graipel, which illustrates the close ties between the fire department and the community.
The fire brigade's equipment has continuously developed since its founding and today ranges from hand-operated pumps to modern fire engines and extensive equipment. This also includes the fact that the hose was developed in the 17th century and the first hand pumps were used until the 20th century. The achievements in firefighting are more important today than ever, and the necessary structures created in Moosinning and Eichenried are a living example of this evolution.
“There’s something going on!”, you could say when you look at the highlights of the anniversary and the history in the region. Holidays like these are not only a look back into the past, but also a motivating impulse for the future of the volunteer fire departments, which act as indispensable components in the German fire protection system.
