Garbage collection campaign on the Danube beach: 11 kg waste away!

Eichstätt, Deutschland - Sixteen members of a committed community came to Ingolstadt last Saturday on the Danube beach in order to jointly set a sign against the littering of nature. As part of a garbage collection campaign, the participants collected eleven kilograms of waste - an action that took place under the direction of Alessandro Sapia and Ahmed Zitouni. Equipped with gripping tongs, gloves and garbage gears, the volunteers went to work. The collected units were diverse: cigarette buttocks, beer lids, metal pieces and even two framed paintings from 2005 were discovered and properly disposed of. This campaign was an inspiration for everyone who wants to take care of our planet, according to [DonaUkurier] reports.

The collection campaign extended over an hour and a half and took place both on the edge of the path and below the motorway bridge before the participants reached the Danube beach. The feedback from the participants was consistently positive, since many appreciated the joint commitment and the joy of the activity. In addition, there are already other actions on the plan that are organized via a WhatsApp group. A QR code on the possible flyers makes it easy to get started with the group.

Common commitment to a clean environment

Such initiatives are not only important on site, but also contribute to the awareness of environmental protection and waste avoidance as a whole. For this purpose, the federal government is to be mentioned as a pioneer in Germany that regularly organizes beach cleaning campaigns on the North and Baltic Sea in order to mobilize volunteers. With your actions, you help to quantify harmful waste and at the same time point out that the best way to protect our planet is to avoid the development of waste in advance. This includes the reduction of disposable plastic and unnecessary packaging in order to reduce microplastics, which is often unknowingly into waters through cosmetic products, as [BUND] emphasizes.

At the political level, a clear focus is on the circular economy as part of the waste management. From 2021, Member States of the EU must transmit data to the Commission to reuse products. The aim is to reduce food waste by 50 % at retail and consumer level by 2030. This is an ambitious undertaking that is not possible without the interaction of everyone involved. The importance of the cooperation of various waste avoidance measures is further underlined in order to reduce the harmful effects of waste on humans and the environment, as can be found in the information of the [Federal Environment Agency].

Overall, the garbage collection campaign on the Danube beach shows that community projects not only cause small, positive changes, but also to initiate a larger wave of change. The participants are a lively proof that every move counts when it comes to protecting and preserving our environment. If you also want to become part of such actions, keep an eye out for the next announcements and come on board - nature will thank you!
