Maltese in constant use: 90 medical missions at the open air on the mountain!

At the Open Air am Berg in Eichstätt, the safety of visitors was a top priority. From Thursday evening to Sunday morning, 80 Malteser helpers were available to respond quickly in an emergency. The medical station was staffed around the clock and was able to guarantee comprehensive medical care. A total of 70 volunteers from the Malteser operational unit Ingolstadt-Eichstätt worked in 6-hour shifts and managed almost 90 medical missions. These mostly included minor injuries such as sprained feet, but the emergency services were prepared for anything.

The event received particular attention thanks to the first-time participation of the “Bavarian Bone Market Donation Campaign” (AKB). During the festival, volunteers registered numerous possible stem cell donors for leukemia patients through uncomplicated cheek swabs. Eight Malteser helpers actively supported this typing campaign and thus contributed to important information about stem cell donation.

Dedicated helpers for the community

The Malteser medical service is not only responsible for treating injuries, but also ensures that all festival visitors can celebrate safely and carefree. As the Malteser website reports, great importance is placed on thorough training for paramedics. These must meet a wide range of requirements, from good health to the ability to work in a team and enjoy working with people. All in all, the volunteer paramedics are ready to help quickly in an emergency.

The medical service is particularly important at events such as concerts and open airs, as emphasized on ersthelfer.tv. The tasks go beyond emergency care and include, among other things, setting up first aid stations and securing the event. Experienced paramedics advise before the event which measures and resources are required.

Pastoral care and support

Not only the health but also the mental well-being of the visitors was taken into account in Eichstätt. The awareness team, supported by the Catholic Student Youth (KSJ), offered festival visitors the opportunity to charge their cell phone batteries and their emotional batteries. Lena Thiermann, the Maltese diocesan coordinator for pastoral care, was part of the festival pastoral care with her husband Jonas and ensured a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere.

The great cooperation of the Maltese people and the committed support of volunteers help ensure that events like the Open Air on the mountain are not only entertaining but also safe. Volunteers will continue to be urgently needed in the future to continue providing such important medical services. Anyone who is interested can contact the Malteser directly and become part of this valuable campaign to ensure health well-being at events, as described on malteser.de.
