Discovery Maria Magdalenas: Celebrate the deacon day in Eichstätt!

Leonrodplatz 3, 85072 Eichstätt, Deutschland - On Friday, July 18, the "Day of the Diaconin" of the Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB) takes place in Eichstätt. The event, which has been launched since 1998, will be opened at 6 p.m. with a word service in the Guardian Angel Church at Leonrodplatz 3. Afterwards there is a lecture in the episcopal seminar at 7 p.m., room f 104, which deals with the person and the meaning of Maria Magdalena. This topic is illuminated by the spiritual advisory board of the KDFB Federal Association, Dorothee Sandherr-Klemp, and is closely linked to the commemoration day of St. Maria Magdalena on July 22. The event not only offers an insight into Maria Magdalena's role, but also into the reinterpretation of its importance in today's church. The word service team around Barbara Ulrich and Diakon Dr. Anselm Blumberg ensures a successful start to the event. Interested parties can register at the KDFB office free of charge: by phone at (08421) 50-673 or by email to info@frauenbund-eichstaett.de.

Behind the "Diaconin Day" is a long -term consideration and discussion about the role of women in the Catholic Church. In Cologne, another “Deaconin +Plus” day is celebrated at the same time, in which five large organizations, including KDFB, are campaigning for the opening of the Diakonisches Office for Women. Under the motto "Referred. Ready. Unstoppable." a rally will take place at the headquarters on Roncalliplatz. The aim is to emphasize the responsibility and appointment of women in the church and to demand social change. Speakers are expected from various organizations who stand up for equality and an active role of women in the church.

Maria Magdalena: A central figure for today's church

Maria Magdalena is often referred to as the "apostle of the apostles" and has an important role, not only in the biblical story, but also in the modern church landscape. This emphasizes the KDFB President Maria Flachsbarth, who praised Maria Magdalena's strength and steadfastness in a previous message. Their joy and grief for Jesus and their brave action are elements that are important in the current church crisis and the synodal path. The return to biblical beginnings is considered necessary to promote equal responsibility within the church. Flachsbarth and other votes within the KDFB request the unrestricted inclusion of women to all aspects of the church.

The parallels between the two events on July 18 in Eichstätt and the "Day of Deaconin +Plus" in Cologne on April 29, 2025 are also fascinating. The variety of voices of women and the associated experience can make a decisive contribution to leading the Catholic Church into an inclusive future.
