Discover the secret life of the bilche in Ebersberger Forst!
In the Ebersberger Forst, an exhibition causes a sensation that illuminates the secret life of the bilche. Under the title "The Secret Life of the Bilche" is celebrated in the Wald and Environment . The hiking exhibition, which was launched by the district group of Nature Conservation in Bavaria, has been open to interested parties since June 14, 2025 and will be shown by October 26, 2025.
The exhibition surprises with lots of information about the shy but not uncommon dormouse, hazel mice, garden sleepers and tree sleepers. The hazel mouse in particular is under strict protection, while other bilches are increasingly threatened due to a decline in their habitats. With the help of the exhibition, the BUND Nature Conservation would like to draw attention to the importance of a diverse living space and especially bring children and families closer to the ecological diversity in the garden.
fascinating insights and practical offers
Visitors can look forward to numerous interactive elements. A "track tunnel" enables the footprints of Bilchen to identify. In addition, video recordings can be viewed directly from a dormouse nest box. QR codes are installed to listen to the sounds of the different bilches. For the little ones there is a craft station and a quiz wheel that stimulates participation. This not only imparts knowledge, but also promotes creative cooperation.
Several events take place as part of an extensive accompanying program. Children and adults are cordially invited to guided tours, a lecture on the way of life of the garden sleepers and workshops, in which nesting boxes can be built for the bilches. These take place on various appointments, such as July 10th and July 20th.
habitats and variety of food
How important orchards are for the lifestyle of the dormouse is also discussed as part of the exhibition. These meadows not only offer an ideal habitat, but also essential food sources that are required by the bilchen in spring and summer. In addition to nuts and berries, this also includes fresh leaves and flowers. The NABU explains why the dormouse harmonizes so well with our domestic forests: "The living space of the dormouse includes deciduous wood stocks with beech and oak" and urgently needs retreats to recover.
Mayor Ulrich Proske, who presented the exhibition with Andrea Puhr from the Museum and Regina Wegemann from the Bund Nature Conservation, sees such initiatives an important step to raise awareness of the domestic wildlife. Many bilches are still threatened in their existence and need our protection so that they continue to remain part of our ecological heritage in the future.
