Dingolfing remains green: the district is committed to 100% green electricity by 2028!

Something exciting is happening in the area of energy supply in the Dingolfing-Landau district. From now on, the district will purchase certified green electricity from Dingolfing municipal utilities for the next three years. This decision was not made without reason: the municipal utilities had won a nationwide tender as the most economical provider and were thus bringing a breath of fresh air into the regional energy supply. The contract covers a total of 29 consumption points with an annual consumption of 2,413,061 kilowatt hours, and the best thing about it is that the electricity comes from 100 percent renewable sources - with no new installation quota. This is also confirmed by stadt-und-werk.

The project was recently launched at a ceremony in the district office, at which municipal utility managers Robert Heider and Josef Maidl handed over the green electricity certificate to district administrator Werner Bumeder and Markus Allmannshofer. This certificate will be issued in the district office in the future and confirms the origin of the electricity supplied. Particularly noteworthy is the decision to choose a regional partner - a step that not only promotes value creation in the region, but also offers citizens a competent contact person directly on site.

Sustainability and climate protection

But what does this step mean for the environment? The use of green electricity protects the climate, and the district emphasizes that it can avoid several thousand tons of CO2 emissions every year. According to regulatory claims, an average of 363 grams of CO2 was emitted per kilowatt hour of electricity in Germany in 2024, a number that has been steadily reduced since 2023. Given these numbers, it is impressive to see how the district is actively contributing to climate protection by switching to green electricity. This is also underlined by the increased use of renewable energies in Germany, which began before 2021 and has contributed enormously to reducing specific emission factors, as [umweltbundesamt](https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/themen/co2-missions-per-kilowatt hour-strom-2024) notes.

Stadtwerke Krefeld (SWK) is one of the responsible authorities that provides green electricity in Dingolfing. They offer a variety of tariff models that are not only environmentally friendly but also reliable and cost-effective. The focus here is on the use of wind, solar and hydropower and plays a central role in climate protection. Those interested can further reduce their carbon footprint by switching to energy-saving devices and the option of generating their own electricity with solar systems or wind turbines. The SWK also guarantees that at least 50% of the electricity comes from renewable sources, a sign of transparency and fairness in the electricity supply swk.

outlook

The district's decision is a model for other regions that also want to rely on sustainable energy supplies. Stadtwerke Dingolfing has proven itself to be a stable supplier, and the new contract continues the path to a greener future. While electricity consumption in Germany has fluctuated in recent years, this shows that there are also opportunities to reduce emissions and at the same time be ecologically committed. A pioneering development that should find more imitators!
