The Dachau Folk Festival, which opened today with the traditional tapping of the keg by Mayor Florian Hartmann at 12 noon, was apparently not without incident. Just six hours after the opening, the police took a drunken rioter into custody. The 34-year-old man from Markt Indersdorf behaved aggressively, insulted and threatened other guests at the festival and even gave a steward a headbutt. The situation escalated when the police arrived. Despite the countermeasures, the rioter did not calm down and tried to kick the police officers. Eventually he was restrained and taken to a holding cell. The fleeting scandal is now giving rise to a number of criminal consequences, as investigations have been launched into assaults on law enforcement officers, bodily harm, threats and insults.

But the 34-year-old wasn't the only one who caused a stir. Another incident occurred in the Ziegler tent, where a 30-year-old from Dachau also rioted. He did not obey a ban that was given and was aggressive towards the police. This man was ultimately transported from the festival grounds using simple physical force. Proceedings were also initiated against him for insulting and resisting the police Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

On the same night, the incidents caused a certain degree of unrest, so the police also carried out increased checks. This led to several drunken drivers being taken off the road. Among them was a 22-year-old man who is being held responsible for heavy drinking. In addition, four e-scooter drivers between the ages of 18 and 38 with blood alcohol levels between 0.5 and 1.1 had to expect fines and driving bans.

Another incident marked the night: a 24-year-old man was stopped before he could get into his car as planned with an intoxicated companion. The ongoing presence of the police and the measures taken show that the popularity of the festival brings with it both happy and challenging moments.

The events surrounding the folk festival make it clear that despite the festive atmosphere, a watchful eye must always be kept on safety. In the long term, it remains to be hoped that the beautiful days in Dachau will be characterized above all by joy and conviviality and not by such incidents.
