Vandalism in Itzpark: Toilets remain closed!
Once again, the city of Coburg is facing a major problem: the toilet facility in Itzpark is again suffering from vandalism. As np-coburg.de reports, the toilet was recently closed again after unknown perpetrators wreaked havoc on the facility last weekend. This is a bleak assessment of a trend that has only gotten worse in recent weeks.
During the recent graffiti, no stone was left unturned: drains were blocked, water was turned on and towel racks were even torn out of the wall. Significant damage was also done to the lamps. Press spokesman Louay Yassin confirmed that the toilets must remain closed to the public until urgent repairs are completed. “We need to make sure the facility is welcoming and functional again,” Yassin said.
Regulations and restrictions
In order to counter vandalism, the city of Coburg, the Office for Youth and Family as well as iSo gGmbH and the city youth association have made new regulations for the toilets. These are now only accessible during the opening hours of the CoJe kiosk. The toilets remain closed on Mondays and weekends. If the situation does not improve, there could even be a permanent closure outside the kiosk opening hours, as can be read in coburg.de.
The city has clearly recognized that it is time to take tough action. A camera installed to monitor the facility was unable to effectively stop the vandalism. However, there remains hope: the toilet facility at the Coburg Skatepark should be made accessible again at the start of the season, which is a good sign for the future.
Vandalism prevention for the future
Effectively combating vandalism presents municipalities with many challenges. One way to make public toilets more robust involves a combination of smart planning, stable materials and modern technology. The CWS emphasizes that vandal-proof sanitary technology primarily uses robust materials such as stainless steel or hard plastics, which can withstand even the harshest attacks. Furthermore, hidden mounts and flush designs can make it much more difficult to remove or damage parts. Automated systems, such as touchless faucets and soap dispensers, also help minimize the risk of vandalism.
An all-encompassing risk analysis and individual advice are indicators that could help the city of Coburg to find a more sustainable way to deal with the problem of vandalism. The measures must be taken now so that future generations can enjoy the Itzpark and its facilities again without any worries.
