Two Americans have a serious accident with a Harley in Berchtesgaden!

A serious motorcycle accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Hallthurmer Berg in the Berchtesgadener Land district. Two Americans, a 62-year-old driver and his 58-year-old passenger, were riding their Harley Davidson when the incident happened around 3 p.m. The two were driving uphill on the B 20 towards Bischofswiesen when the driver apparently lost control of the motorcycle. The cause of the accident was attributed to excessive speed in a left-hand bend, which ultimately led to the crash. The PNP reports that the driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries while his pillion passenger was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

After the accident, the motorcycle was recovered by a towing service. While the Bad Reichenhall police were investigating, one lane of the road was closed for a short time. The investigating authorities initiated proceedings against the driver for negligent bodily harm. Although such incidents are not the norm, they do highlight the dangers of riding a motorcycle.

The dangers of motorcycling

Engine compartments offer a sense of freedom and are often less expensive than cars, but they also pose significant risks. statistics show that motorcyclists are at higher risk for serious injuries and accidents. While the overall number of traffic accidents is declining, motorcycle accidents remain particularly serious. Motorcyclists in Germany are confronted with over 500 deaths and almost 10,000 serious injuries every year, which accounts for around 20% of total traffic accidents.

The most common causes of accidents are juvenile driving errors, increased speed and risky overtaking. Solo accidents are particularly fatal: they account for almost a third of accidents. A third of these accidents occur due to driving errors, followed by a high proportion due to excessive speed. The ADAC accident analysis shows that over 50% of collisions with other vehicles are due to turning and intersection accidents, with cars being involved in 80% of cases ( car dealership ).
