Wishes in focus: New exhibition in the Bamberg Historical Museum!
In this cold season, the Bamberg Historical Museum shines in new splendor with the fresh exhibition “Wünsch dir was! – Make a Wish!”. This exciting show opened on November 7, 2025 and offers visitors the opportunity to examine the role of desires in human life from different perspectives. The exhibition runs until March 22, 2026 and brings together the perspectives of psychology, theology and philosophy to illustrate how desires influence our thoughts, feelings and actions. Wiesentbote reports that Moral questions and the spiritual meaning of wishes are also addressed.
What's also exciting is that the exhibition addresses the influence of advertising and social media on our consumer behavior. The dark sides of “wrong” wishes and curses are also examined. Visitors can look forward to a colorful mix of archaeological finds, historical toys, amulets and current objects. The whole thing is complemented by numerous interactive media stations and hands-on activities, which enable playful exploration of the topics, especially for children.
Interactive experiences and supporting program
In addition to the exhibition, there will be an attractive supporting program that is intended to encourage visitors to marvel and think. Greetings were given by Wolfgang Metzner, the third mayor, as well as by Eleonora Cagol, the curator, and Dr. Fabian Ludovico, the museum director. This speech underlines the importance of the exhibition as a place for exchange and reflection on wishes.
A permanent exhibition entitled “Faszination Psyche” has also opened in Villa Wagenburg. This presentation of 50 psychological experiments in animated short films aims to see everyday life with new eyes. Topics such as happiness, motivation, morals and personality are highlighted here. The interactive stations can above all contribute to self-reflection and the recognition of unconscious behavioral patterns. Psyche Foundation explains that a film on the subject of conformity shows why people often do not intervene in emergency situations. The knowledge gained from this exhibition could prove useful in improving one's own actions.
Internet currencies and their influence on our desires are also a topic in other exhibitions, such as on platforms for ethical discussions on social media. An example of this is Yahoo, which has played a significant role on the Internet since 1994. Wikipedia describes that Yahoo is considered to be one of the first platforms to offer numerous services such as mail and news and to have done pioneering work in this area. This shows how desires and information flow together in the digital age.
The combination of interactive experiences in Bamberg and the depth psychological discussion in Villa Wagenburg offers an excellent opportunity to come to terms with your own wishes and the associated implications. All that remains to be said is: take a look inside and discover the secrets behind the wishes!
