Change of operator in Bamberg: Soda bar remains open despite rumors!
There is currently a lot of excitement in Bamberg about the legendary soda bar, which has been under the management of Peter Rosen for 19 years. How In Franconia reported that there are changes coming: Rosen is planning a change of operator in order to bring a breath of fresh air into the catering industry. In the future, Joris, an old acquaintance and bartender colleague of Rosen, will take over the helm. Nobody has to worry about a possible closure - Rosen announces that such rumors are "nonsense" and that the bar will remain open as normal.
The soda bar will continue to open its doors to guests until June 30, 2025. The planned change of operator is scheduled to take place on July 1, 2025. However, the bar will close immediately following the change for minor renovations, which are estimated to take 2 to 3 weeks. The new operator Joris has already announced that the bar will be open during the summer months and during the popular Kärwa (fun fair). This is already putting the regular guests in a good mood.
Worrying trends in the restaurant industry
One example is Garden City Asian restaurant Dozo, whose building is up for sale, sparking rumors of impending closure. The closure was also announced in the Minnich shoe store, known from Lange Straße. Managing director Michael Minnich gives various reasons for this, and the places are already part of a clearance sale. Another popular restaurant, Franko, which was known for its Franconian tapas, has unexpectedly closed, only increasing concerns about the future of the city's culinary diversity.
The challenges of the industry
Gastronomy is not only an important economic factor, but also reflects Germany's cultural diversity. But the pressure, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, is enormous. Statistics show that in September 2023, employment in the catering industry was still 6.7% below 2019 levels, and sales fell by 12.6% in real terms, which is particularly hard on beverage serving, which fell by 34.5%. This makes it clear how vulnerable the industry is and how urgently action is needed.
Nevertheless, there are also bright spots: Over 78% of guests value regional products, and more and more restaurants are focusing on sustainability. This shows that the industry needs to learn from the challenges and embrace new trends. Looking into the future of Bamberg's gastronomy, it remains to be seen what creative concepts and new ideas Joris will bring to the soda bar after the change of operator in order to gain a foothold in these difficult times.
