E-bikes in Bad Tölz: boom or crisis? Dealers report!
The enthusiasm for e-bikes in Bad Tölz is constantly increasing, especially among younger people. As Merkur reports, 36.2% of people in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen already own an electric bike - a significant increase compared to the nationwide figure Average of 28%. But despite its high popularity, the sales boom has stalled in recent months. Dealers are seeing a decline in demand compared to the record years of 2022 and 2023.
Peter Riedelsheimer, a bicycle expert from Bad Tölz, is monitoring the situation closely and notes that e-bikes are now being sold on a par with conventional bicycles. Many buyers use them as an environmentally friendly alternative, which in many cases can even replace a second car. Marco Schreiber from “Radl Rasti” in Lenggries adds that the market is now saturated and leasing models influence purchasing behavior.
Challenges for retailers
A threatening “crisis after the crisis” is how Alexander Völker from “Völkers Bikeshop” in Geretsried describes the current situation for smaller dealers who have ordered plenty of bikes during the pandemic. Now many are faced with full warehouses and have to cope with falling prices and economic pressure. This makes it all the more important to go to specialist shops when buying e-bikes instead of getting involved in tempting but often inferior hardware store offers.
While the prices for e-bikes vary greatly, high-quality models in the price range of 5,000 to 6,000 euros make much more sense. E-bikes have now become accessible to a wider audience, including specific models for heavier riders that can carry up to 180kg. The demand for classic types of bikes, such as gravel bikes, also remains unbroken.
Market development and trends
In Germany, one of the leading countries when it comes to e-bike use, e-bikes are increasingly being used not only for leisure purposes, but also for urban logistics and as low-emission transport alternatives. This is also reflected in modern developments in e-bike technology, which include, among other things, intelligent features such as GPS and digital dashboards.
The rapid development shows that e-bikes are continuing to gain ground - not just as a trend, but as a serious alternative to cars. It remains exciting to see how the market in Bad Tölz and beyond will develop. In any case, it remains to be hoped that dealers will find the necessary flexibility to face the challenges and maintain enthusiasm for e-bikes in the future.
