Augsburg relies on night crew”: Focus on safety in nightlife!

Something is happening in Augsburg with regard to a safe nightlife! The “Night Crew” initiative, which was launched by the coalition of the CSU and the Greens, is intended to ensure that young people in particular feel safer in the city center. Volunteers will be active on weekends to provide support during conflicts and to strengthen the feeling of security. A corresponding concept in development

A comprehensive concept is currently being developed to make the implementation of the “night crew” effective. The idea is that the night crew should complement existing security measures instead of replacing them. Leo Dietz from the CSU emphasizes that Augsburg is one of the best large cities with its safety standards, but that support is also needed in critical situations. The DAZ Augsburg makes it clear that an important aspect is the perception of the night crew.

One point that is repeatedly emphasized is the legal demarcation of the night crew. Under no circumstances should this act as a “vigilante group”, which is not permitted in Germany. The sovereignty over security-related tasks clearly remains with the police and officially commissioned security forces. This clarification is not only important for the helpers, but also contributes to the trust of the population.
