Amberg shows heart: 2,500 euros for local clubs from lost property auction!

Amberg, the charming town in the Upper Palatinate, has once again demonstrated its community spirit. With the recent raising of 4,500 euros through the lost property auction on May 24th, five local associations were able to benefit from the support. Mayor Michael Cerny presented a total of 2,500 euros from these proceeds to non-profit organizations that make a valuable contribution to social life in the city through their voluntary work in the town hall this Tuesday.

The lost property auction took place in the picturesque courtyard of Spitalgraben 3, where numerous found items were auctioned off. The offerings included not only bicycles, but also jewelry, clothing, a toolbox and a high-quality Pedelec. This tradition of the city of Amberg has a special character: the proceeds from the auctions do not flow into the city budget, but directly benefit the clubs. When handing over the donation, Cerny emphasized the importance of every donation, no matter how small, and thanked the volunteers for their tireless commitment.

The supported clubs

The list of donation recipients shows exactly who benefits from the city's support:

In a further step, existing donation checks for 950 euros each were handed over to other organizations, including the volunteer fire department of the city of Amberg and the Child Protection Association.

A look at the lost property

The proceeds from the auction are not only impressive, but also a testament to the variety of things that are lost. Every year around 550 found items are donated in Amberg, ranging from bicycles and clothing to curious treasures such as walkers and backpacks full of vodka. A third of these make it back to their owners or are handed over to the finders.

The situation in the aid organizations in Amberg remains different. While some clubs are happy about influx or even waiting lists, others need support more than ever for various reasons. Particular attention was therefore paid to initiatives that promote the support of children and young people. Even the city itself supports voluntary work and encourages social responsibility.

The organization of the auction day and the opportunity to support those in need demonstrate a great community spirit. “There’s something going on,” you could say when it comes to supporting local projects that are close to your heart! A heartfelt thank you from the people of Amberg for their support proves that willingness to help pays off - even in the form of small amounts.
