Carting for a good cause: charity sheep's head tournament in Julbach!

On June 6, 2025, there will be a charity sheep's head tournament in Julbach for the first time, which will be held under the motto "Carting for a good cause". The organizers, the Unterreiner Forstgeräte company and State Parliament President Ilse Aigner, invite sheepshead enthusiasts from all over Bavaria to not only show off their skills, but also to make a valuable contribution to the St. Nikolaus children's hospice in Bad Grönenbach. As the PNP reports, the event will begin at 5 p.m., with the game scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

The rules and procedures of the tournament are designed to make every game an unforgettable experience. Participants can look forward to two rounds of 32 games each, which further increases the excitement and competitive spirit. Sepp Hundegger from Lenggries will be in charge of the tournament and his commitment will certainly ensure an appropriate atmosphere.

For a good cause!

The financial aspects of the tournament are particularly worth mentioning: of every entry fee, which is 12 euros in advance and 15 euros at the box office, two to five euros go directly to the children's hospice. This initiative not only shows how attractive the Sheepshead game is, but also the players' willingness to get involved in helping others. With a maximum number of participants of 150 games, it is clear that a lot of players are taking the cards in their hands and are fighting not only for victory, but also for the good cause.

Another reason not to miss the tournament is the growing focus that the Sheepshead game is currently receiving. For example, next Sunday will be the 1st World Sheephead Day. A central event takes place in Münchberg, Upper Franconia, and numerous tournaments are also held elsewhere in Bavaria and online. The initiative to promote this traditional Bavarian form of the game is supported by Schafkopf associations, the Bavarian Ministry of Homeland Affairs and the Bavarian Philology Association. Here it becomes clear that the Schafkopf game is much more than just a pastime - it brings people together and promotes social bonds.

Card tricks and strategic thinking

For those who are not yet familiar with the intricacies of the game: Schafkopf is usually played by four people and uses Bavarian playing cards. Players can compete in different variants, be it in team mode or as an individual player. The “sow games” are particularly exciting, where the team members don’t know who is on their side at the beginning. These strategic elements make the game a challenge that goes far beyond fun - it promotes mathematical and social intelligence, and some schools even offer sheepshead lessons.

So anyone who has the opportunity to take part in the charity sheep's head tournament on June 6th in Julbach should quickly secure their starting place. Registrations are possible via the website www.schafkopfen.com or by telephone at +49/8042/918322. As the saying goes: If you don't dare, you don't win - and in this case you can also do something good!
