Bayreuth Tigers experience 1:9 defeat against Lindau – coach harsh criticism!

On the evening before Christmas Eve, there was an impressive ice hockey game in the BPM Arena between the EV Lindau Islanders and the Onesto Tigers Bayreuth, which ended with a clear 9-1 win for the home team. The Islanders hardly gave the Tigers a chance to develop. With 847 spectators behind them, the Lindau team demonstrated an outstanding performance and were able to secure important points for the play-off placement of the Ice Hockey Oberliga Süd. They are now in first place in the table, while Bayreuth fell to seventh place after a series of defeats (3:7, 4:6, 2:5, 3:7, 1:9) including this game.

The game was already decided in the first third break. With five goals in the first period, including the opener by Lukas Bender in the 8th minute and a strong brace from Patrick Raaf-Effertz, the Islanders made things clear. The Bayreuthers were only able to create a few good chances in the first half, which they were unable to capitalize on. Coach Larry Suarez criticized his team's poor performance and said it was difficult to keep one's head up after such a game. The absence of players Cameron Leask and Lennard Habeck, who are ill, was also significant, while Jesper Müllejans returned after a long injury.

Key moments of the game

In the middle third, the Tigers were able to score a consolation goal in the 30th minute through Jan Hammerbauer, but Lindau immediately countered with further goals from Marcus Marsall and Valentin Busch. Lindau was strong in power play situations and scored two goals in the power play, while Bayreuth was unable to capitalize on any of their five power play games. This shows a clear imbalance in the performance of the two teams. Lindau made the most of these opportunities, which particularly pleased the coaching team around Michael Baindl, as it meant they were able to achieve their goal of reaching current third place in the table before Christmas.

The final third brought just one more goal for Lindau from Corvin Wucher, sealing the final score of 9-1. An exciting time now awaits the players, as the Onesto Tigers have to play against the Erding Gladiators on December 29th, followed by another match on January 2nd against Deggendorfer SC. However, given the current form and recent results, the omens are anything but favorable.

The game once again showed how important concentration and team spirit are in ice hockey, and that spectators are always enthusiastic about coming to the halls to support their teams. The Tigers fans are now hoping for a quick turnaround in the next home game.
