Würzburg's reopening offensive in 2025: Gastronomy and retail on the move!
Something is happening in Würzburg! The coming year promises a breath of fresh air in the catering and retail sectors, as numerous new and reopenings are imminent in the city center. Numerous innovative concepts and culinary hotspots will be on offer from December 2025, designed to attract both locals and visitors.
A new highlight will be the **“Shakesbeer”**, which will open its doors at Juliuspromenade 50 at the end of February 2026. This cozy pub, run by a creative team of four around Nima Khorsandi and Marcel Demand - who also run the Barviertel stop and Brückenbäck - is intended to be a place where guests can relax and chat over a beer. As much as we can tell, no shaken beer is offered. Würzburger Leben reports on this promising opening.
Culinary diversity and new shops
The catering industry is getting several new faces. From December onwards, **Dia Dining**, a vegetarian sharing concept, will be a hit on Zeller Straße and not just for veggies. The **Pilatcha**, a reformer Pilates studio combined with an inviting café, is also opening in Sterngasse. Far Eastern specialties are available in the new **Mai – Noodles and Sushi** on Eichhornstrasse, while **Kaya Salat & Feinkost** can now be found in Kaufland.
But it doesn't just stop there! From October 2025, the **Fitomat**, an independent fitness studio without staff, will open in the CC Passage, immediately followed by the **Yoga Soulclub** in Zell am Main and the **Momo Café Bar** on the market square with a fantastic view of the hustle and bustle of the market square. The list leaves little to be desired: **Zeitgeist jewelry and gifts** as well as the **Ice cream factory from Casa**, which serves handcrafted ice cream, will also be moving into the city center. City Würzburg keeps us up to date on these developments.
An answer to the challenges of retail
However, the retail and catering industries are not only faced with new opportunities, but also with enormous challenges. Changing shopping habits and increasing online retail are colliding with the needs of customers who demand a special experience. This so-called “through-branchization” often results in vacancies and unattractive urban spaces. The corona pandemic has also increased the pressure on stationary retail. Stadt Manufaktur emphasizes that it is particularly important in small and medium-sized cities to revitalize retail and catering in order to secure local supplies and keep the city center attractive.
In Würzburg, an attempt is being made to give retail a fresh impetus with a variety of new gastronomic and business offerings. The anticipation of an exciting development in the city is palpable, and just like a good beer, retail also has to mature in order to please. It will be interesting to see how the people of Würzburg and their guests will react to these new adventures!
