Gunzenhausen celebrates its 624th fair: beer prices and festival highlights revealed!

In Gunzenhausen, preparations for the 624th parish fair are in full swing. The festival opens on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 and promises a fantastic time until Sunday, September 21st. This tradition has made it into the hearts of the Gunzenhausen people since 1401 and is older than the United States of America NN.de reported.

An absolute highlight is the beer tapping, which will take place on the opening day at 6 p.m. by Mayor Karl-Heinz Fitz. Before that, there will be an ecumenical prayer in the Protestant town church in the afternoon, followed by a concert by the youth band at 2:30 p.m. on the market square. The traditional church fair starts at 3 p.m., which ends with a parade into the festival tent.

Beer prices and news

The festival beer shows a moderate price increase: a liter will cost 10.90 euros, compared to 10.50 euros last year. Gerhard Stengel from the Schlitzer Stadtbrauerei, which has been Kerwa's official beer supplier since 2017, highlights the typical Schlitzer hop character of the beer, which has an alcohol content of 5%. Sales manager Wolfgang Eckerlein reports high demand for the new Kirchweih beer, which has been available in stores since August 4th. Gunzenhausen.de points out that the new outdoor area with 200 seats and a pergola tent with 100 seats at the Schießwasen, under the direction of Desireé and her brother Christian Papert, also increase the festival's attractiveness.

Another interesting point is the return of Kirchweih boxing, which will take place in the ring on the first Kirchweih Sunday, September 14th. Boxers from AC Nürnberg compete against opponents from Rotterdam. This event is sure to attract many spectators and add to the Kerwa's entertainment offering.

Logistics and security

To ensure safety and access to the festival, the market square will be closed to traffic from 12 p.m. from September 13th to 15th. There are parking options in the area, including on Spitalstrasse, Oettinger Strasse and at Hafnermarkt. There are also church bus lines available, which makes getting there easier. The entrance to “Zum Schießwasen” from Weißenburger Straße is also closed, so drivers should take a few precautions.

The festival restaurants are closed from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and until 12:30 a.m. on weekends, while music can be played until midnight. Entertainment will be provided by the band “Partyrocker” and the newly set up ecumenical tent with entertaining sermons that will take place at 7 p.m.

Another exciting offer is the large family afternoon “Big Fur Day” with plush toys for the little visitors - another reason to visit the facility during the fair. For anyone interested, the Kirchweih thalers are now available at the Tourist Information, which is certainly a nice souvenir idea. Further information about the fair can be found on the official homepage NN.de visible.
