Bundeswehr Day 2026: Experience tanks and assault flights in Weiden!

On June 6th, 2026 there will be a very special day in Weiden: The Bundeswehr Day 2026 takes place in the Major Radloff barracks and promises an interesting program under the motto “The Armored Brigade – Carrier of the Battle”. The barracks, which have undergone many changes since they were set up on May 1, 1955, will be opened to those interested on this day and will offer a comprehensive insight into the various organizational elements and branches of the military.

Visitors can look forward to exciting presentations of the entire capability profile of all organizational areas. Among other things, Panzer Brigade 12 will present its modern vehicles and weapon systems. Another highlight will be the overflights by army pilots and the air force, which embody the fascination of aviation and military technology.

Interactive insights

In addition to the vehicle and weapon systems, there is the opportunity to try out local simulators that illustrate military events through dynamic demonstrations. Soldiers will not only present their vehicle fleet to visitors, but also all of their equipment and equipment. For those curious, there will also be the opportunity to ask questions directly to military personnel, allowing for personal exchanges and offering visitors a look behind the scenes.

The mayor of Weiden, Jens Meyer, is enthusiastic about the ministry's decision to host the event in his city. After all, Weiden is one of only ten locations in Germany where Bundeswehr Day is celebrated. This not only offers an exciting insight into the world of the Bundeswehr, but also strengthens the connection between the Bundeswehr and the population.

Recruiting young talent in the Bundeswehr

Local advertising plays a crucial role in the search for new talent for the Bundeswehr. An example of this is the trial internship “Mission 12”, where 41 young people from all over Germany were able to try out what it was like to be a soldier for three days. One participant, 18-year-old Adis from Cham, is taking part in this exciting camp and has already tried out various professions, from painter to baker.

This internship represents a significant opportunity as participants can complete their on-site aptitude tests immediately afterwards. During the camp, they not only get to know the practical aspects of soldier's life - from early morning exercise to marching with luggage - but also the team spirit. Adis reports a positive experience and expresses interest in a career in the armed forces, but has concerns about the sports tests.

With initiatives such as Bundeswehr Day and programs to recruit young talent, the Bundeswehr has a good knack for reaching out to young people and winning them over. It remains to be seen which new faces will introduce themselves in Weiden on June 6, 2026.
