Diversity in the water – also in Moosbach

A related exhibition entitled “Flowing Diversity – the fascinating world of water in the Upper Palatinate” opened in the Moosbach town hall on April 2, 2025. This exhibition, which was open until May 9, showcased impressive water photographs of the region. Here too, Simon H. Süß had the pleasure of guiding through the exhibition, while Mayor Armin Bulenda and Helmut Jahn from the Weiden Water Management Office were present. The photographs presented reflect not only the scenic but also the historical diversity of the Upper Palatinate and invite visitors to discover them from new perspectives.

Both exhibitions have the same goal: to raise awareness of the importance of water, a resource that is often taken for granted but is of great importance to the environment and our daily lives. With regard to the climate change problem, it becomes clear how essential it is to recognize and appreciate the value of water. This is also supported by initiatives around the globe that combine art and environmental awareness.

Art as a mediator

A notable initiative in this context is the “Walls of Water” project by the non-profit organization Viva con Agua. In Kampala, a mural depicts a girl handing a cup of water to a crowned crane. Created by international street artists in collaboration with children, this art form aims to raise awareness about hygiene and the importance of clean water. Such projects illustrate how art acts as a powerful medium to communicate key issues of climate change and the environment.

Barbara Dombrowski, a Hamburg photographer, has been using her art to draw attention to the consequences of climate change for almost two decades. Her works show, among other things, the connection between different regions, for example through portraits of indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest in front of a glacier in Greenland.

The exhibitions in Weiden and Moosbach are not only a showcase for the impressive water world of the Upper Palatinate, but also invite an in-depth discussion of a topic that affects us all. It is an opportunity to rethink our view of water and reassess its value in our lives. Visit the exhibitions and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of water!
