Heat wave in Unterallgäu: UV warning and tips for cool heads!

The Lower Allgäu region is currently facing a heat wave that will bring summer temperatures of over 30 degrees today, June 25, 2025. This is what it points to Augsburger Allgemeine there. But caution is advised! The German Weather Service (DWD) is issuing a warning about increased UV radiation, which is particularly high on Wednesday between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. In order to avoid sunburn and long-term skin damage, the DWD recommends that citizens protect themselves accordingly. Recommended actions include:

• Vermeidung längerer Aufenthalte im Freien zwischen 11 und 16 Uhr
• Tragen von sonnendichtem Hemd und langen Hosen
• Benutzung von Sonnencreme mit einem Lichtschutzfaktor von mindestens 30
• Tragen einer Sonnenbrille und eines breitkrempigen Huts

High UV radiation and its risks

The warning does not only apply to Lower Allgäu, people are also affected in other Allgäu districts and parts of Upper Swabia in Baden-Württemberg. In addition, there is also a warning about heat, like that 20 minutes reported. The risk of sunburn is particularly high, so you are warned against staying in direct sun with a UV index of 8 or more. This is especially true for children and people with light skin. Dermatologist Dr. Valentina Bänninger highlights the dangers of long-term skin damage and skin cancer associated with unprotected exposure.

However, the high UV pollution is expected to decrease in the coming days, due to clouds moving from Baden-Württemberg over the Allgäu. Meteorological thunderstorms are also forecast for Thursday, which could bring brief relief. From Friday the signs point to rain and cooler temperatures, while the weekend is expected to remain dry in the Lower Allgäu.
