Cross-border hiking: Trattberg brings regions together!
In an impressive setting, the Trattbergalm agricultural community together with the EUREGIO Salzburg-Berchtesgadener Land-Traunstein recently invited employees of regional tourism organizations to the Trattberg. The event took place in St. Koloman and focused on cross-border hiking and the exchange of projects that benefit the region. At a height of 1,756 meters, the Trattberg is one of the most impressive peaks in the Osterhorn group and not only offers breathtaking views, but also a wide range of leisure activities.
The Trattberg alpine pasture area covers around 600 hectares and can be reached via a toll panoramic road. The group of participants not only enjoyed the view of the majestic mountains, but were also able to admire the impressive flora and fauna in this region. “We have a lot to offer here,” said the participants, “four managed huts, numerous hiking opportunities and even a via ferrata!” In addition, the new option was created to hold wedding ceremonies in the natural setting of the Trattberg.
An exchange with tradition
The meetings in the Bavarian-Salzburg exchange have now become a beautiful tradition that has existed for several years. Previous events have taken place at various locations, including the engine shed in Rosenheim, the Jennerbahn in Schönau am Königssee, the salt mines in Hallein as well as numerous breweries and the cave castle in Stein an der Traun. The aim of these meetings is to promote the networking of tourist information and excursion destinations and thus appeal to cross-border mobile guests.
“The positive response and the great interest in further events shows that we are on the right track,” report the organizers. The next meeting is already planned for autumn in Berchtesgaden. “Here we would like to further deepen the successful approaches,” said an event manager optimistically.
EUREGIO: Strong together
The EUREGIO Salzburg – Berchtesgadener Land – Traunstein, active since 1995, is a voluntary association at the municipal level that connects the regions of Salzburg, Berchtesgadener Land and Traunstein. The organization aims to strengthen cultural and economic cooperation as well as support in the areas of tourism, education and sport. A particular focus is on the development of cross-border projects in order to further advance the region.
The history of this EUREGIO goes back to the 1990s, when geopolitical changes made increased cooperation between the regions necessary. It now has almost 400 members and around 1.3 million residents. It is essential to initiate and support projects that promote collaboration across borders.
The member cities are particularly proud of the EUREGIO project Saalachsteg and the Mozart cycle path, which not only contribute to regional identity but are also popular tourist attractions.
The EUREGIO's efforts to strengthen regional development and competitiveness are visible signs of a living European idea - and the Trattberg will certainly help to further promote cross-border cooperation in the future.
