On August 10, 2025, 16 municipalities met in Eisselfing to present innovative approaches to the energy transition in the climate protection network.

Local energy transition: municipalities show the way to sustainable heat supply!
The fifth network meeting of the Rosenheim-Traunstein climate protection network took place in Eisselfing today. Representatives from 16 municipalities – including Bad Aibling, Bad Feilnbach, Bruckmühl and many more – came together to work on the energy transition. The importance of the local energy transition was particularly emphasized during the meeting, especially with regard to local heating supply and cooperation between municipalities, citizens and experts. Georg Reinthaler, mayor of Eisselfing, and Sebastian Gröbmayr from the Institute for Sustainable Energy Supply GmbH (INEV) opened the event and presented the municipal activities for the energy transition. The two emphasized the urgency of climate protection measures and improving the carbon footprint in the next three years. OVB Online provides information about the results of the meeting and the relevant topics.
At this meeting, practical examples were also presented that show the feasible implementation of a municipal heating transition. Christoph Kurz spoke about the local heating network in Prien, which has been supplying customers since 2023 and is aiming to be converted into a municipal company as a planned expansion. Rudolf Schreyer reported on a cooperative heating network in Albaching that not only brings energy benefits, but also strengthens the sense of community. Confronted with various challenges, Ben Döring gave insights into the current status and approach. In addition, Eberhard Hälbich from NVE explained the expansion of the heating network in Eiselfing and emphasized the importance of communication and public relations for the success of such projects.
Innovative approaches to regional cooperation
Another highlight of the meeting was the tour of the NVE's biomass heating center. The participants were able to experience first-hand the 0.8 MW boiler in operation as well as the wood gasifier and other systems. A photovoltaic system including battery storage ensures the company's own power supply, which completes the concept of sustainable energy supply. The projects presented show that the municipal heating transition can be successfully implemented with various business models if the focus is on close cooperation and needs-oriented concepts, as OVB Online reports.
The climate protection network aims to unite regional forces to promote innovative projects and take appropriate measures against climate change. Knowledge transfer is the focus of the activities. Regular meetings - the next one on September 23, 2025 - enable continuous exchange between members in order to jointly develop solutions and address ecological challenges. They are supported by the Ebersberg-Munich Energy Agency and INEV, which ensures professional support for the joint efforts, according to Ebersberg-Munich Energy Agency.
In summary, the meeting in Eisselfing shows that the energy transition in Bavarian municipalities is making tangible progress through joint exchange and innovative approaches. With enthusiasm and concrete projects, we remain optimistic about the future of regional climate protection measures.
