Anna Dachs wins University Prize 2025 for sustainable LED research!

What a reason for joy! The Straubinger University Prize winner 2025 is certain: Anna Dachs is honored for her master's thesis with the topic of "Engineering Living Materials for Bio-Hleds". With a smooth grade of 1.0, she prevailed in competition. The Straubinger Hochschul Prize , which has been lost annually by Sparkasse Niederbayern-Mitte, the city of Straubing and Straubing-Bogen, this year 29.

Anna Dachs was born in Straubing and attended the Anton-Bruckner-Gymnasium before continuing her academic career at TUM Campus Straubing for biotechnology and sustainability. Her master's thesis is particularly promising because it is devoted to the development of sustainable LEDs. It is about replacing rare earths with special proteins. What is special about your investigation is the production of these proteins using living e.coli bacteria, which could possibly significantly reduce the costs of the production of organic. The aim of this innovation is to replace the conventional, fossil technologies with environmentally friendly alternatives.

Over 5,000 euros that the award winner turns out to be a small reward for her hard work make the whole thing appear even more attractive.

Not only our region, but also the entire biotechnology industry has recently developed lively. An example of this is the Innovation Award , which was awarded on April 9, 2025 as part of German Biotech in Heidelberg. Application -oriented ideas are honored with high implementation potential and great market opportunities. This year, six finalists were able to look forward to the specialist jury, while three of them were considered 2,000 euros each.
