Beer transports over Lake Starnberg: a look at the exciting story!

The Starnberger See, a jewel in the middle of the Bavarian landscape, has a fascinating story that is deeply rooted in the traditions of shipping. For many generations, the ferrymen have been an indispensable part of soul life: they promote beer and other freight goods over the glittering water surface. A look into the past shows that Tutzing and Ammerland were once important locations for beer traffic. Even special bridges were built to conveniently unload the heavy beer barrels. An oil painting by Colombo Max from 1950 impressively illustrates the challenges that a ferryman had to master at the time while he controled his barge with beer barrels, like the Süddeutsche reported.

Nowadays, Bavarian Seen shipping offers countless ways to explore the Starnberg See with modern motor ships. The fleet comprises several magnificent ships that can be rented not only for passenger transport, but also for company parties and weddings. Among the most popular is the MS Starnberg from 2004, which, with its 56 meters length and 800 passengers, offers a wonderful view of the lake. But also the older ships, such as the MS Bavaria from 1939, have their own charm and are par excellence.

The museum steamer MS imagination, which establishes a connection between the Buchheim Museum in Bernried and Starnberg, is particularly remarkable. In addition, there are a variety of jetty around Lake Starnberg, including popular points such as Starnberg, Tutzing and Possenhofen, all of which can be easily reached by S-Bahn, as Bayregio

a piece of history

The tradition of lake shipping in Bavaria has deeper roots: As early as the 19th century, the Königssechiffreis began to develop as a business branch for the local population. Rowing boats and "Landauer" made the water a popular transport route. This history of shipping has continued to develop over the years, until 1984 finally merged all shipping companies for the state lake shipping of the Free State of Bavaria, such as the Seenschifffahrt

The Starnberg See is not only a place of relaxation, but also a living piece of history that contains countless stories and traditions. Whether relaxing over the lake or enjoying a cool beer, the connection to tradition remains inseparable.
