Schwandorf in sports fever: Armin and Alexandra Wolf receive awards!

In Schwandorf things were getting sporty again! Numerous enthusiastic citizens took part in the long-standing “Schwandorf is moving” campaign. Among them were the well-known sports presenter Armin Wolf and his wife Alexandra, who recently took the German sports badge. Mayor Andreas Feller presented the awards at a celebratory ceremony in the town hall. The gold and bronze medals were highly praised, while Wolff and Alexandra put their heart and soul into it and expressed their joy at taking part.

The event, which has been organized in Schwandorf for 20 years under the motto “Schwandorf is moving”, was very popular in 2024. There were over 160 participants at the start back then. This year too, participation was on the agenda for many Schwandorf residents. Feller opened the campaign ceremoniously, while Walter Zilch and Erhard Schönfelder were present as examiners. In addition to the athletes, softball player Susanne Korbely and other guests were also there to enrich the sporting event.

The German sports badge – a tradition with honor

The German Sports Badge has existed since 1913 and is still one of the largest popular sports movements of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). It offers a wide range of disciplines for sports enthusiasts of all ages, including athletics, cycling, swimming and gymnastics. Every year, over 1 million people with and without disabilities seek this award, and more than half achieve the coveted badge. It is awarded in gold, silver or bronze and is a true “badge of honor of the Federal Republic of Germany with a religious character,” according to the information on the official website of the sports badge.

Participants have the freedom to choose from a variety of disciplines that suit their strengths. This diversity becomes particularly clear at the sports badge campaign in Schwandorf. The sporting achievements were impressively recognized, and Armin Wolf reported that the representation of many sports at the event was pleasing, only baseball and softball were missing.

A look into the future

The regular training sessions take place in Schwandorf every second Wednesday in the Sepp Simon Stadium, while swimming in the adventure pool is offered on several dates in the summer. Cyclists have the opportunity to complete various routes, with the meeting point being at the waterworks in Krondorf. The organizers would like to thank the examiners for their many years of service and look forward to further successful sports badge examinations in the region.

A dedicated team of examiners and active participants ensures that sporting activity remains alive in Schwandorf. Everyone who is involved in sports and aims to earn the German Sports Badge is warmly invited to take on the challenges. Because here, togetherness is the top priority and underlines that there is still a lot of movement in the air in Schwandorf.
