Police strike: 17-year-old and 20-year-old caught with drugs!
During a routine check in Schwandorf, the police caught two young people who were traveling with cannabis. During the encounter near the train station, officers noticed a 17-year-old man throwing a burnt butt of a hashish cigarette onto the ground. During the subsequent check, the police also discovered that both the teenager and his 20-year-old companion were in possession of small amounts of marijuana and hashish. The young woman then received a complaint. Even though cannabis can be legally purchased and consumed in Germany since April 1, 2024, its supply to people under the age of 18 remains prohibited Charivari reported.
The legalization of cannabis not only has legal dimensions, but also poses risks, especially for young people. The Federal Ministry of Health points out that children, adolescents and young adults are particularly vulnerable to health damage caused by cannabis consumption. An educational campaign is therefore being launched, aimed both at those affected and at caregivers such as parents or teachers. The aim is to strengthen the protection of minors and educate the public about the health risks. Further information can be found on the ministry's website at infos-cannabis.de.
Health risks and prevention
The health effects of cannabis are diverse and can be particularly serious in young people. According to a comprehensive analysis by the Federal Ministry of Health, consumption increases the risk of mental illness, especially if consumption begins early. A systematic review finds that early initiation of cannabis use can increase the risk of psychosis or depression. It is therefore of utmost importance to promote education about these risks - especially in schools and among parents. Under Health Knowledge Foundation comprehensive information is available.
The developments surrounding cannabis clearly show that society still has a lot to learn. The question of the responsible use of legalized substances, particularly in relation to young people, remains at the forefront. It remains crucial that both consumers and society are educated to minimize health risks and promote wise, responsible use of cannabis.
