Schwabach crowns Gabrielle Chardigny with art prize for impressive installation!

On August 9, 2025, the city's art prize was awarded in Schwabach as part of the locating 14 biennale. The French artist Gabrielle Chardigny was pleased to receive the award, which comes with an impressive 8,000 euros. The presentation took place in the Municipal Gallery and was carried out by Mayor Peter Reiß and Sandra Hoffmann-Rivero, head of the cultural office. This year, an impressive 360 artists applied to take part, from which a jury selected 30 talented competition and guest participants whose works will be presented during the Biennale. Schwabach.de reports on this successful event.

Chardigny’s installation entitled “Is there gold on the moon?” makes a powerful contribution to the Biennale. The work addresses the environmental impact of gold mining and the associated, often toxic production conditions. It raises questions about responsibility towards our planet and encourages reflection on the costs of luxury and consumption. The installation features red sandy soil, symbolizing barren soil, and is designed into four glass capsules enclosing fragile plants. The setting has a dystopian feel that warns of the ecological devastation caused by gold mining. Kuenstlerbund Schwabach emphasizes that the use of the smell of cyanide in the air is a strong element of the installation that encourages debate.
