Closure at Kirchenplatz: Demolition of the Simbach secondary school begins!

Construction work on the secondary school in Simbach (Rottal-Inn district) is progressing. From Monday, January 19th to Friday, February 20th, the entrance to the church square from Bahnhofstrasse will be completely closed due to traffic safety measures. The reason for this measure is the ongoing demolition work, which has been underway since October 2023. The responsible company, Mailhammer, is currently demolishing the south/west wing (specialist classroom wing). During this time, a large mountain of construction rubble is created that will have to be removed in the coming weeks. The district is investing a total of 26 million euros in the new building, which is scheduled to be completed by 2027, reports the PNP.

But what will become of the new building? The official inauguration of the new school building took place on Thursday afternoon. This extends over 900 square meters and now offers seven classrooms, a school kitchen with dining room and rooms for all-day care. When planning, the architect Michael Kremsreiter attached particular importance to an environmentally friendly design with lots of wood and tiles. The concept is intended to promote free, flexible learning and is reminiscent of a university teaching environment.

Positive response from politicians and school management

Numerous guests of honor were present at the inauguration, including District Administrator Michael Fahmüller, District President Rainer Haselbeck and Mayor Klaus Schmid. District Administrator Fahmüller described the new building as unique in Bavaria and emphasized its importance for the education of young people. District President Haselbeck also sees the new building as an important pillar for a successful school system.

The school director Alexander Leibelt expressed himself positively about the project and described it as the “best possible investment in education and the future”. Deputy headmaster Harald Schuster emphasized how important the new building is for students and teachers. Parents' council chairman Michael Killermann gave an overview of the planning and implementation of the construction phases, which have now been completed. Pastor Joachim Steinfeld and Pastor Viktor Meißner duly took over the ceremonial blessing of the new school building. The festive finale was the performance of the student and teacher choir, who performed the song “Mamma Mia”.

The new construction of the secondary school in Simbach is not only an important step for the school community, but also offers an optimistic outlook for the further development of educational institutions in the district. With such large investments, it is clear that something is happening that will delight both students and teachers.

It will be exciting for the citizens of Simbach to see how the school location will develop in the next few years. For those involved in school and politics, one thing is certain: There is something going on in Simbach!
