Premiere in Regensburg: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspires!

The celebration took place on December 7, 2025 Theater Regensburg the German-language premiere of the musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. In a highly anticipated production by Ulrich Wiggers, the famous story of Roald Dahl, which has thrilled many generations since its publication in 1964, comes to life.

The focus of the story is Willy Wonka, who is looking for a worthy successor for his chocolate factory. Since Wonka is childless and increasingly withdrawn from the outside world, he hides five golden tickets in his chocolate bars. Those who find these cards are allowed to visit the mysterious factory and have the chance to become Wonka's successor. Young Charlie Bucket, who comes from a humble background and hears about Wonka's adventures from his grandfather, is hoping for the golden ticket. Once a year the Bucket family can afford a bar of chocolate, which only increases the anticipation and thrill. All events adds that the five children who get the tickets will go on an imaginative journey through the wonderful world of the chocolate factory.

The magic of staging

The performance features new original music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman. In the first act, David Greig's stage work tells of the exciting hunt for the golden tickets and those who find them - often neglected children with very different life stories. In the second act, the production shows the challenges that the children have to face in order to inherit Willy Wonka's legacy.

Another highlight of this premiere was the creative and technical implementation. The stage design and lighting design were created by Kristopher Kempf and Maximilian Spielvogel, whose commitment brought the magical world of the chocolate factory to life. The musical direction was in the hands of Lucia Birzer, who ensured that both vocal and musical quality were present at the highest level.

Alejandro Nicolás Firlei Fernández and Felix Rabas provide captivating acting for the roles of Willy Wonka and Charlie Bucket. The production is loosened up by slapstick elements, which do not always directly advance the plot, but provide some amusing moments.
