A New Year's celebration full of surprises and not always in a positive sense: In Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm there was a worrying incident on the main square on New Year's Eve. At around 12:10 a.m., a 46-year-old wanted to protect his family from dangerous fireworks that were set off near him. But instead of gratitude, he received attacks from a group of young adults. They attacked him after he pointed out their risky behavior. The attackers, who were probably between 18 and 25 years old, then fled in an unknown direction. The 46-year-old suffered a cut above his eye, but fortunately was uninjured. The police have already launched a criminal investigation into grievous bodily harm and are calling on witnesses to provide relevant information. But it wasn't just in Pfaffenhofen that there were serious incidents on New Year's Eve. Also in Hof, where the events took place on New Year's Day around 2:00 a.m. in the central square, several people were seriously injured due to improper or targeted use of pyrotechnics. A total of four people suffered significant burns and eye injuries. One of them was transferred to the University Eye Clinic in Erlangen for specialized treatment. Details about the current health status of those affected are not yet known.
