Ostallgäu is calling for submissions for the inclusion flower 2026!
International Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated worldwide on December 3rd. This day is also of particular importance in the Ostallgäu district, because it marks the starting signal for submitting proposals for the coveted “Inclusion Flower” 2026. As Allgäu Hit reports, this award is given to particularly committed people, initiatives, clubs, institutions and companies that are committed to participation used by people with disabilities.
Around 18,000 people with recognized disabilities live in Ostallgäu, and numerous organizations and citizens are actively committed to the participation of these people. Submissions for the inclusion flower can be made by phone at 08342 911-225 or by email at inklusion@lra-oal.bayern.de. The deadline for proposals is May 2026 - so there's plenty of time to show your good hand for inclusion!
Engagement through events
An example of active commitment in the area of inclusion is the annual forum of the Kaufbeuren-Ostallgäu Community Psychiatric Association. This year, in collaboration with the inclusion coordination, the topic of “trialogue events” will be addressed. These offer a platform to bring those affected, relatives and professional companions together on an equal basis, as JB2023 Ostallgäu describes. The first trialogue took place in October at the Kaufbeuren adult education center and was very popular.
At these events, people with experience in psychiatry, relatives and employees of psychiatric facilities come together to learn from each other and promote exchange. Matthias Mader from the clinical pastoral care department shared his positive experiences from similar formats in other cities, while Dr. Gudrun Starringer, senior physician at BKH Kaufbeuren, explained the clear benefit of such discussions.
Digital participation as a challenge
Another important topic in the area of inclusion is digital participation. According to a study by Aktion Mensch, this is increasingly seen as part of social participation. People with disabilities still face numerous hurdles online. Although the Accessibility Strengthening Act will impose a legal obligation on private sector providers to make their offerings barrier-free from June 2025, the use of digital offerings remains a real challenge for many.
The SINUS Institute had already commissioned a comprehensive study in 2019 that illuminated the difficulties of digitalization for the social participation of people with disabilities. The results clearly show that the accessibility of the most popular online shops still has room for improvement.
With a view to the upcoming proposals for the Inclusion Flower 2026 and the constant further development of inclusion in the Ostallgäu district, it is to be hoped that many committed citizens and organizations will continue to actively support and promote the participation of people with disabilities.
