The second round in the 2nd Bundesliga brought a bitter end for 1. FC Nürnberg. On August 10, 2025, the team suffered another defeat when they lost 1-0 in the home game against Darmstadt 98. This leaves the club with no points in its account after two games. Corredor scored Darmstadt's decisive goal in the last minute of regular time, more precisely in the 90th minute. After a long header from Hornby, Corredor didn't take long and finished with a precise shot into the bottom right corner.
The encounter was characterized by a large number of chances, especially in the second half Nuremberg were closer to equalizing than in the first. Coach Miroslav Klose had to make do without a change in the starting line-up after a defeat against Elversberg, which showed him clear problems as the game progressed. In the 76th minute his team showed a good phase, but the equalizer would not come. Especially in the last few minutes, the club mobilized all its strength once again, but Schuhen, the Darmstadt goalkeeper, parried important shots, including a header from Knoche in the 75th minute and a dangerous shot from Justvan in the 87th minute, which was blocked.
A game with little sparkle
The first half was rather weak offensively; Both teams made numerous bad passes and so the game had no real highlights. Throughout the entire party, Nuremberg took advantage of their chances better, but were unable to convert them into something countable. Only the saves by Reichert, the Nuremberg keeper, in Darmstadt's final attempts kept the hope of winning a point alive. The first big chance of the second half belonged to the guests, who came into the game with a rebellious attitude.
Nuremberg were a much more pleasant team in the second half and felt closer to the winning goal in the 84th minute. It remains to be seen whether this upward trend for Klose and his boys can continue in the next matches or whether the mixed form that was already evident in the first two games will continue. Darmstadt, on the other hand, can now boast a positive balance with six points and has taken another step towards the top half of the table with the win against the club.
The situation is very tense for Nuremberg at the moment and the team will have to show in the next few weeks that they have what it takes to turn the situation around. Will the necessary turnaround come or will the club remain stuck in the relegation regions of the table in the new season? These questions will probably soon be answered.
