Live hearings for the local elections: You have a say!

The local elections in Bavaria are scheduled for March 8, 2026. In order to actively involve young people in the region in the political process, the KJR Neuburg-Schrobenhausen is organizing two exciting live hearings in collaboration with the local youth centers and municipal youth representatives. These take place in Schrobenhausen and Neuburg and offer young people the opportunity to engage directly with the candidates. As the Augsburger Allgemeine reported, the first hearing is scheduled for January 23rd at the GreenHaus youth center in Schrobenhausen, followed by another on January 30th at the Neuburg youth center.

Both events start at 6 p.m. and welcome all young people interested in politics. In addition to first-time voters, those who would like to find out more about youth policy issues are also invited. In order to promote an interactive exchange, the questions for the hearings are developed by young people in collaboration with the KJR team. The candidates have to demonstrate their skills in various question formats and exciting game rounds.

Moderation and technical implementation

Gianni Rubin from KJR-VOLG and Marla Bach from the Youth District Council are at the helm of the moderation in Neuburg. The event is supported by the Neuburg Youth Parliament, which helps with both the games and the technical implementation. A camera team led by Dominic Euringer will record the hearings so that the first excerpts can soon be published on the social media channels of the KJR and the youth centers.

A similar hearing for the district election took place on January 15th, the basic concept of which was based on the upcoming live events. All five candidates have confirmed their participation in the hearings and are preparing to present their positions and visions.

Electoral procedure in Bavaria

In Bavaria, seats are distributed in local elections using the Sainte-Laguë/Schepers calculation method. This means that the total number of votes for the constituency proposals is divided by 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. The seats are then allocated to the nominations according to the highest division numbers. Should there be equal claims for a seat, the greater number of votes of the candidates decides; In the event of a tie, the draw will decide. An example: In a municipality with 7,000 inhabitants, 20 municipal council seats are allocated, for which a total of 47,502 valid votes were cast.

The distribution of seats is as follows:

Party/voter group Voices Seats
A party 20,554 9
B party 8,712 4
C party 8,270 3
D voter group 9,177 4
E-voter group 789 0

These regulations not only provide a fair distribution of seats, but also ensure that every citizen's voice counts and is heard. Youth participation in political issues is an important step in promoting interest in local politics and strengthening the voice of the younger generation.
