Cat protection in Aschelsried: All outdoor cats must be registered soon!

The Neuburg-Schrobenhausen District Office is committed to the safety and well-being of wild cats. From March 1, 2026, all cats that roam freely in Aschelsried must be identified. This decision was received with great joy by animal rights activist Angela Habermeier, who has been tirelessly committed to animal rights for a long time. The background to this movement are repeated references to feral cats in Aschelsried, which were largely initiated by Habermeier. She had already written an open letter to important institutions in January 2023 to draw attention to the grievances.

Mayor Stefan Kumpf (CSU) was informed about the regulation in advance and would have liked to personally inform citizens about the measures at a meeting. Kumpf sees the new regulation as a positive way to combat the problem of free-living cats. There was already an operation in Aschelsried in February 2023 due to inadequate keeping conditions for rabbits, which led to the closure of a rabbit farm, which shows that the issue of animal welfare is of great importance here.

Requirements and consequences

According to the regulation, from March 1, 2026, all free-roaming cats in Aschelsried must be identified with a microchip or ear tattoo and registered in a pet register. Cats that are not registered are brought to the animal shelter and offered for adoption. The control of these regulations is the responsibility of the employees of the veterinary office, who will carry out regular checks. Gerd Schmidt, the head of the Neuburg animal shelter, urgently points out the problem of the uncontrolled proliferation of free-living cats and thus supports the necessity of this new regulation.

A spokesman for the district office already recognizes the possibility of expanding this regulation to other municipalities. Mayor Kumpf describes Aschelsried as a “test balloon” and sees high requirements for such an expansion across the entire district. The effectiveness of the regulation will be reviewed after three years. This is an important step towards responsible pet ownership and better protection for our animal friends.

An outlook on cultural events

While the focus in Aschelsried is on animal protection, there are also cultural highlights that inspire people in the region. On November 14, 2025, the third episode of the popular “Cuatro Jinetes” saga, “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t”, will be released in cinemas. Director Ruben Fleischer brings a new adventure to the screen that features familiar faces like Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson as well as new talent. The story follows a team of illusionists who return in a thrilling mission to steal the “Diamante Corazón”.

In Latin American countries, the launch date could even vary, giving the community something new to talk about. After its theatrical release, the film will also be available on platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. A beautiful view that shows how diverse the cultural offerings are in the region.
