Bloody knife attack in Schwabing: Police arrest murder suspect!
Yesterday, January 19, 2026, an attempted homicide in Schwabing, Munich shocked residents. At 2:10 p.m., a 61-year-old German alerted the police and reported a threat with a pistol. But when officers arrived, they found him in the stairwell with a knife. The situation escalated when the man attacked a police officer with a knife. Thanks to the quickly intervened special forces, the 61-year-old was disarmed and arrested. He suffered injuries and was immediately taken to hospital. Fortunately, the police officer was uninjured thanks to his protective equipment. Commissariat 11 is taking over the investigation in order to clarify the background to this disturbing act, which Bavaria Police reports.
But that wasn't the only incident in the last few days. Two days earlier, on January 17th, there was a robbery in Giesing. A 19-year-old German was attacked by two unknown perpetrators who tried to snatch a fan scarf from him. While the young man was slightly injured, the perpetrators escaped in the crowd. Here too, Commissariat 23 is calling on all witnesses to provide information.
More attacks and break-ins
Another alarming situation also occurred on January 17th, when an attempted robbery of a betting shop took place in Ottobrunn. Masked perpetrators broke into the store, but were able to escape empty-handed when the alarm went off. The employee was injured and the investigation is ongoing under Commissariat 21. A description of the perpetrator is available:
- Täter 1: Männlich, ca. 175 cm, dunkle Kleidung.
- Täter 2: Männlich, ca. 170 cm, schlank, dunkle Kleidung.
But that's not all: A break-in at a store in Neuperlach was discovered on the night of January 19th. Unknown perpetrators broke in violently and stole cigarettes and cash worth mid-five figures. Here too, Commissariat 52 is asking for information from possible witnesses.
Traffic accidents and their tragic consequences
Various traffic accidents have also made headlines in recent days. An 85-year-old pedestrian was hit by a 52-year-old driver on January 15th and died in hospital on January 19th. The Munich traffic police are investigating this case. There was also another accident in Freimann on January 19th, in which a man over 80 was seriously injured and two other people were slightly injured. The street had to be closed for the cleanup work.
A bicycle accident in Grasbrunn, also on January 19th, resulted in a head injury to a woman over 70 years old who fell due to an icy road and had to be taken to hospital. The police strongly remind people of the importance of wearing bicycle helmets.
In view of these incidents, it is to be hoped that the investigation will produce quick results and the perpetrators can be held accountable. The term “suspicion” plays a central role in these cases. According to the Juraforum, this refers to the assumption that a crime may have been committed. Depending on the facts, different levels of suspicion can be reached, which lead to investigations. In all cases, authorities must now carefully consider what steps need to be taken to ensure the safety of citizens.
