Mühldorf am Inn: Financial turnaround? Surplus surprises citizens!
On July 14th, a crucial meeting of the district and finance committee in the Mühldorf am Inn district took place, at which the district's financial situation was discussed in detail. Treasurer Markus Heiml presented the annual financial statements for 2024 and the half-year report for 2025, which showed remarkable results. Loud Innsalzach24 A surplus of around 3.6 million euros was achieved, which represents a positive deviation from the previously planned deficit of 3.1 million euros.
However, District Administrator Max Heimerl emphasized that this surplus was due to one-off effects that are not sustainable in the long term. The factors that contributed to this positive result include, among other things, a shift in demolition costs and additional income from supra-local audits, which contributed significantly to stabilizing the budget situation. An improvement in the financial situation is expected in 2024, but Heimerl warns that the savings of the past cannot be maintained in the long term. Particular attention was paid to the increasing costs in the social sector, which are expected to be almost 28 million euros by 2025.
Draft budget for 2024
When presenting the draft budget for 2024 under the motto “Save, stabilize, invest strategically”, the district administrator announced View point known that the total volume is 205 million euros. The district is increasingly feeling the financial pressure, due to rising energy prices as well as growing personnel costs due to tariff increases and higher social spending, especially in child and youth welfare. In order to ensure financial stability, an increase in the district levy by 1.3 percentage points to 55.3 percent is necessary.
Investments were also specifically planned: around 24 million euros are earmarked for important future projects, including the expansion of high schools and the construction of a new special education center. Despite the urgent investment issues, the necessary savings cannot be ignored. For example, maintenance measures in civil engineering must be reduced and some positions in the district office must be filled later in order to reduce personnel costs.
Debt levels and outlook
According to estimates by the district office, the current debts amount to around 55 million euros. The increase in debt is forecast for 2024 to a total of around 66 million euros, which also includes the Innklinikum's old debts. Heimerl also explained that the Innklinikum's declining deficits, which amount to 14.3 million euros, represent a positive development. Nevertheless, the district must continue to ensure that social spending does not get out of control and that its financial ability to act is maintained.
The good news is that the tax authorities are seeing positive developments in personnel and material expenses, which could potentially lead to a smaller deficit. Nevertheless, the district remains required to draw up a solid and sustainable financial budget in view of the increasing challenges.
