District heating in Polling: Mayor declares the end of geothermal energy dreams!
In the small community of Polling near Mühldorf am Inn there are currently heated discussions about the future of district heating supply. Mayor Lorenz Kronberger of the UWG recently made it clear at a meeting of the local council that, in his opinion, the plans for a geothermal energy-supported district heating supply were “dead”. The main reason: the economically unsustainable costs, which amount to around 34 million euros, of which only 20 percent are funded. Innsalzach24 reports that the production costs are 32.38 cents per kilowatt hour, which many local councilors find untenable.
The feasibility study, which was commissioned with funding and has been available since July, was also discussed in the local council. Mayor Kronberger sees the study as the basis for municipal heat planning, which, however, only applies to certain districts. The local councils, on the other hand, are calling for more comprehensive heat planning that takes the entire community into account.
The claim to the feasibility study
Another point of discussion is the desire of EWI (Geothermal Energy Inn Bayern) to have access to the feasibility study. EWI has an investor who wants to build a district heating network at his own risk. The challenge, however, is that the engineering firm that created the study owns the copyright to it and ultimately decides whether to share it. While some local councilors are calling for an active approach to approaching investors, Kronberger remains in his position that EWI and the investor must address the community directly.
The local councilors also emphasize the importance of using the relevant studies, as they were financed with tax money. There is clear pressure here to find solutions for a sustainable heat supply that is both economically viable and environmentally friendly.
The challenges of communication
Municipal administrations are often faced with the challenge of reconciling various interests. Reports on local services make it clear that communication problems do not only exist in large cities. They show how important it is to maintain clear and open communication - be it in politics or in the social sector. One example of this is the Grace House Counseling Center, where families can find support in crisis situations. The positive evaluation and quick feedback offered by reception staff highlight the importance of good communication channels - a lesson that also applies to the local political landscape. Tedereka describes how a family made rapid progress with the support of a therapist.
In polling, it is also crucial that citizens and the community work together to find a solution that is acceptable to all parties. The ongoing discussions about district heating supply are a sign that there is still a lot of work to be done by those responsible. Because at the end of the day, it's not just politics that counts, but also the well-being of citizens.
The importance of sustainability
In today's world, sustainable solutions are more important than ever, and infrastructure projects must be well thought out both economically and ecologically. The discussion about district heating supply in Polling could play a decisive role in how future energy concepts are implemented in the region. The more the community is able to find innovative approaches, the better it can meet the challenges in the area of energy supply.
