Memmingen is pushing climate protection: projects funded with up to 3,000 euros!
A lot is happening in the area of climate protection in Memmingen! The city has relaunched its “Your Project for Climate Protection” funding program to raise awareness of the challenges of climate change and promote new initiatives. Private individuals, schools with their support associations as well as non-profit associations and organizations from Memmingen can apply for financial support. Up to 3,000 euros are available per project, with the funding covering 100% of the planned costs, but only as long as funds are available. Applications can now be submitted by email to klimaschutz@memmingen.de, and the climate team will evaluate the project ideas, with the next meeting taking place on June 26, 2025. There will be further meetings every quarter to select suitable projects and support them financially.
With this initiative, the city primarily wants to launch environmental education projects, practical climate protection measures and community actions. Whether events, demonstrations or neighborhood projects – the range of ideas that are eligible for funding is large and can strengthen and inspire the community. Mercury reports that with this support the city would like to make a valuable contribution to reducing the effects of climate change.
Climate protection at European level
While Memmingen promotes local projects, the discussion about climate protection also continues at the European level. The European Commission recently approved the revised Funding Directive for Climate Change Contracts, marking a further step towards a new bidding process. The aim is to support companies in the energy-intensive industry in order to make investments in CO₂-neutral production facilities. BMWK highlights that these new frameworks will also enable companies to react more flexibly to unforeseen events. The first round of bidding has already shown promising results and another round is now being prepared.
In order to also support small and medium-sized companies, care was taken to make the new funding guidelines more accessible and attractive for this target group. Through a new auction process, companies should be able to obtain better conditions for climate-friendly investments.
Sustainability and quality of life in urban areas
There are exciting developments in the area of climate protection not only in Bavaria, but also in Berlin. The Sustainable Development Program, which is also supported by the EU, focuses on sustainable solutions to improve the quality of life in urban areas. Efficient use of energy and the preservation of essential infrastructural elements, such as green and blue infrastructure, are the focus of this initiative. Berlin Senate Administration is already showing success with its BENE 2 program and wants to continue to promote environmentally conscious projects and measures in the future.
Given these diverse approaches to climate protection, both locally and internationally, it is to be hoped that many citizens in Memmingen and beyond will seize the opportunity to make their contribution. It remains exciting to see what innovative ideas will emerge from the new funding program.
