Fire ban ignored: seriously injured cyclist and tragic fawn!

On June 28, 2025, the Lohr am Main police station independently pursued an incident that caused more than just a small uproar in the Main-Spessart district region. On the one hand, an open fire was discovered in an allotment garden that had been lit despite an existing ban. This unauthorized fire occurred around 10 p.m. near the Heegweg extension. The 59-year-old man responsible was forced to put out the fire immediately and a misdemeanor charge is expected to follow. The regulations in the Free State of Bavaria are clear due to the increased fire protection: open fires are not only prohibited in nature reserves, but also in many other areas. Especially in landscape protection areas, citizens must be aware that they may face fines of 250 to 2,500 euros. The situation is different with charcoal, gas and electric grills, which can legally be used in private areas in urban areas. Here, too, precise regulations must be observed in order to avoid fines. Bussgeldkatalog.org reports that in many federal states the ban on fires in nature reserves is very strictly controlled.

But it wasn't just the fire that made headlines that day. A serious accident involving a cyclist also caused concern. At around 5:25 p.m. there was a fall in Triefenstein, on a bike path parallel to state road 2299. The 63-year-old cyclist accidentally hit a bollard while riding, which caused him to fall. In the impact, the man apparently suffered a fractured shoulder on his left arm and suffered some bruises and abrasions on his left leg. He was immediately taken to the hospital in Lohr am Main. It is worrying that his bicycle helmet broke on impact, which may have prevented more serious injuries. Fortunately, no other person or vehicle was involved in the incident and there was no damage to the bollard.

Wildlife incidents in the region

Further sad news came from Roden, where a seriously injured fawn was found on June 26, 2025. Everything points to a dog being responsible for the young animal's death. This happened in an area where an adult deer had previously been killed and a seriously injured fox was discovered, which was rescued by a hunter. It cannot be emphasized enough that dogs in the wild pose a risk to wildlife. Against this background, a complaint has already been filed after a press appeal was unsuccessful. The police urge dog owners to always keep an eye on their animals and not to allow them to roam unhindered, as this can lead to tragic incidents. Information about the incident can be reported to PI Marktheidenfeld on 09391-98410.
