Carnival 2026: With water-shy hangovers against alcohol abuse!

A happy togetherness during the carnival season, combined with an awareness of the responsible use of alcohol - that is the goal of the new campaign “A hangover is afraid of water”, which is being organized by Main-Spessart District Office was brought into being. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the less enjoyable aspects of alcohol consumption, particularly during the often party-filled Carnival season.

The campaign is organized in collaboration between the Office for Youth and Family and the Main-Spessart Health Department. They should make the carnival activities not only colorful but also safe. “The carnival season often brings with it excessive alcohol consumption, and we would like to encourage people to rethink this,” explains a spokesman for the district office. The program involves walking groups and floats taking part in the carnival processions and handing out 100 water bottles with the motto “A hangover is afraid of water”. These bottles are intended to be distributed primarily to young spectators in order to set an example for “customs instead of drinking.”

Raising awareness and incentives

The aim of the initiative is clear: to bring about a rethinking of how we deal with alcohol. Each group that takes part in the campaign receives financial support of 100 euros for their efforts. A total of five groups will be selected for funding. With a higher number of applications, the creativity of the ideas determines the selection.
