First creative market in Landsberg: A great success for the community!
On November 21, 2025, the first creative market of the Caritas Association's day care center for mental health took place in Landsberg. As the Augsburger Allgemeine reported that the event was a complete success, attracting many visitors, although no special advertising was carried out. Under the motto “Creativity meets community”, the regular visitors and the Caritas additional income project presented a variety of creative works.
The market offered artistic and useful items, including pottery, woodwork, candles and crocheted items. Those who could even brought their own workpieces to complete under competent guidance. Mariella Mathia, the head of the day care center, was extremely positive about the response and the many people present who took advantage of the offer. There was also a culinary highlight: homemade apple bread and the traditional Tuscan farmer's soup ribollita were offered.
A space for relaxation and creativity
The daycare center at Lechstrasse 2 not only offers a protected space for people with psychological stress, but also supports them with individual, creative offerings. 50 to 60 people visit the facility every month. The days are full of various activities, with a team of trained professionals on hand to assist participants. This is not just about creative activities, but also about the important exchange between visitors.
A very special focus is on the Caritas additional income project. People with mental illnesses or addiction problems who cannot work on the regular job market can find meaningful employment here. This project not only offers a small financial contribution, but also promotes the development of social contacts and the improvement of professional skills. Weekly working hours can be flexibly structured between 2 and a maximum of 14.75 hours. Activities include cleaning work, seasonal commission work and the creative woodworking workshop. This type of employment is important because how Caritas Landsberg explains, it helps to stabilize the participants and awakens a feeling of self-worth.
The power of creativity
But why is creativity so important for mental health? Cultural activities, such as those seen at the Creative Market, have a proven positive effect on well-being. Researcher of the Max Planck Society have found that creative engagement, whether through arts and crafts or other cultural activities, can significantly benefit mental health. This insight is also reflected in the positive response that such markets can generate.
The day care center and the additional income project not only offer a platform for creative development, but also an important space for social interaction and support. Next year, the creative market will possibly take place again on a larger scale and attract even more creative minds.
