School projects in the Kulmbach district: cost explosion of 100 million euros!
There are major investments in education in the Kulmbach district. The replacement of the secondary school and the renovation of the two high schools could cost a huge sum of up to 100 million euros. The new secondary school building is necessary because the concrete building on Alte Forstlahmer Straße can no longer be renovated. The costs for this amount to more than 40 million euros, as [Frankenpost](https://www.frankenpost.de/content.bis-zu-100-millionen-euro-schulprojekte- Werden-fuer-den-kreis-kulmbach-RECHT-teuer.46ad9150-1624-435a-9ae2-f1c435ec8cfc.html) reports.
Peter Wiesenmüller, known as a district administrator candidate, drew attention to these needs at the Epiphany meeting of the SPD local association and the Kulmbach district association. His appearance was seen as a kind of election campaign announcement and business inventory.
Renovation projects in Presseck
The municipality of Presseck also has big plans. The renovation of the local school is pending here, for which a budget of exactly 2,222,222 euros has been planned. Mayor Christian Ruppert explained at a citizens' meeting the need to replace the aging water pipes. An incident on April 12, 2022, when an old pipe burst under pressure in the Kunreuth district and the fire department had to be mobilized, clearly showed that there is a need for action. The construction yard was in use for days to repair the pipe damage, according to the report from Kurier.
With a total volume of around 7.7 million euros, the Presseck municipality's budget includes not only school renovations, but also numerous other projects. 278,000 euros are budgeted for broadband expansion in underserved districts, while 102,000 euros are planned for replacing the heating in the old school building, which also supplies the fire station with heat. In addition, according to the local council, a new fire engine will be purchased for the Wartenfels fire department, which will cost over 410,000 euros.
Financial challenges and outlook
Despite the high investments, the municipality of Presseck also has debts amounting to 1.27 million euros. An approved cash loan of up to 1.5 million euros is intended to ensure interim financing for ongoing projects. The positive assessments of the budget by various local council members reflect a good grasp of the financial challenges. But that's not all: the forest and natural cemetery behind Heinersreuth Castle has now also received an operating permit, which means that urns can be buried under trees in the future - further proof that the community is actively looking after its infrastructure.
Finally, it remains to be hoped that all of these projects will be successfully implemented and that the educational location of Kulmbach and the community of Presseck will be sustainably strengthened. The next steps in implementing the plans are eagerly awaited because the future of the students and the community is at stake.
