Tanzelfest-Kaufbeuren 2025: King Konradin impresses at the children's festival!
On July 18, 2025, the people of Kaufbeuren didn't have to be asked twice: the charming children's festival, the winner of the hearts, opened with a colorful opening piece in the dance roundel. Whether King Konradin, who accompanied the celebrations with his humorous and benevolent commentary, or other prominent guests - the festival captivated everyone. Characterized by a mix of beaming faces and happy laughter, the magical journey through the traditions and customs of the youth began.
But how did the dance festival actually come about? The roots go back a long way. The earliest documentation of the festival comes from Johann Georg Steudle, who reported on the course of the festival in the 18th century in 1805 at the instigation of the Kaufbeuren city commissioner Michael von Weber. [Tanzelfest] reports: “The festival always started on the Monday after Jacobi, provided the weather cooperated.” At 3 a.m., baroque-style singing boys performed, followed by an entertaining parade through the city that was in full swing at 8:30 a.m. with boys dressed in military clothing.
The course of the festival
The train order was a masterpiece of organization. First came the runners and then followed by the field musicians and the hunters with officers. The impressive parade led through Hintere Gasse to the Spithal, where the festival was in full swing. The afternoon attracted the children to the Tätzelhölzle, where they were able to spend happy hours dancing and playing.
The weather held up this evening apart from a few rains during the day, but the mood was undimmed. An incomparable evening for the children, who were able to stay in the Tätzelhölzle until a maximum of 10 a.m. On rainy days, the mayor can even approve a fourth day of celebration. This shows how flexible the traditions and customs have remained over the years - always with a good hand for the needs of the little festival visitors!
A perspective full of joy
A wonderful initiative by the Protestant Church Fund ensures that free white beer is provided for the children during the festival. This way, no palate is left unpampered and everyone can feel the joy of the festival! The luxury foods and the happy togetherness are part of this long-standing tradition that is an integral part of Kaufbeuren.
The opening ceremony showed that the people in Kaufbeuren not only maintain traditions, but also create space for community and joy. A festival like the Dancing Festival is the heart of the city, bringing together young and old and leaving an unforgettable impression. At this point we would like to thank everyone involved who always makes the festival a special experience!
For many children, it was a highlight to experience the celebrations with their own eyes and immerse themselves in the hustle and bustle. That's why we can only hope that the dance festival in Kaufbeuren will bring joy and community for many more years to come. [Allgäuer Zeitung] delivered a charismatic report about the opening ceremony using the words of King Konradin, which only further fuels the anticipation for the festive season.
