New Year's reception in Kaufbeuren: Gablonz home district wakes up after a break!

On January 16, 2026 the time had finally come: after a break of several years, the Gablonz home district invited people to a New Year's reception. In the venerable walls of the historic meeting room in the Kaufbeuren town hall, Mayor Stefan Bosse welcomed the members and guests of this special event. In his speech, he emphasized the historical and cultural connection between Kaufbeuren and Gablonz an der Neisse, which not only builds an emotional but also a cultural bridge across generations.

The Gablonz home district has made it its mission to preserve the heritage of the former German population from the Gablonz district on the Neisse. It brings together numerous local communities, Jizera Mountains groups and Gablonz guilds from Germany and Austria. The chairman Dr. Thomas Jahn emphasized the necessity of this commitment and spoke of the relevance of a lively exchange between past and present. According to kaufbeuren.de, the home district represents this deep-rooted history and the 20 local communities served through regular meetings and activities.

A look back

Dr. In his speech, Jahn recalled the historical events that shaped the connection between Gablonz and Kaufbeuren. The year six has a special meaning for Gablonz - be it the city's elevation in 1866 or the emperor's visit in 1906. In the coming year, the Neugablonz urban area will also look back on 200 years of history, which is one more reason to uphold and celebrate these traditions.

While several members of the Gablonz community discussed past challenges and their consequences for culture, Jahn also expressed concern about current federal political developments. In particular, the discussion about compensation claims and the economic difficulties in Germany are causing uncertainty, as can be seen from all-in.de. The danger that many activities will have to be organized on one's own initiative in the future is real.

Honors and outlook

Kurt Reichelt, the honorary chairman, was also honored at the event for his many years of work and services to the Sudeten German ethnic group. Heinz Feix also received a certificate of honor and was made an honorary member. These awards are a sign of appreciation for the tireless efforts of the members in their home district.

Mayor Bosse praised the initiative and entrepreneurial spirit carried by the displaced people to Kaufbeuren and Neugablonz. The positive response to the New Year's reception shows how healing a "breath of fresh air" can be for the community: an event that promotes the marketplace of ideas and exchange as well as maintaining long-held traditions.
