Kaufbeuren shines in the splendor of the art of baking! The Körber bakery was recently named one of the 20 best bakeries in Bavaria. At a ceremony in the Munich Residence, Alexandra Schenk, head of department in the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, presented the state honorary award. Günter Wagner, state guild master of the Bavarian bakery trade, was also present and emphasized the importance of such awards for the craft and the regional economy.

This award is not just a small accolade. It stands for the high quality and craftsmanship that characterizes Bavarian bakers. This year, an impressive 272 companies from 42 guilds applied for the prestigious award. A big competition in which the Körber bakery ultimately prevailed and can be happy about the recognition. The requirements for participation are high: Continuous five-year participation in the bread test with at least five breads and the continuous testing of three consistent types of bread are mandatory.

The masterpiece of the Körber bakery

Christian Körber, the bakery's owner and master baker, was visibly pleased with the award. "Crafts have great importance for our region. We are proud of the quality of our products and the passion we put into every bread," he said at the award ceremony. The Körber bakery is a family-run traditional bakery that has been known for its artisanal baking skills since 1998.

The award ceremony took place in the festive setting of the Max Josef Hall and also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the State Honorary Prize, which was first awarded in 2001. With a total of 2,419 breads submitted to the tests, the competition was strong. While the award-winning companies, including the Körber bakery, achieved scores between 4.983 and 4.939, Minister Michaela Kaniber emphasized the importance of the bakery trade for food sovereignty and cultural tradition.

Economic importance of the bakery trade

Günter Wagner recalled that the Bavarian bakery trade is of great importance not only from a culinary point of view, but also from an economic point of view. Last year it achieved net sales of almost 4.3 billion euros and employs around 59,000 people in the industry. Figures like these underline how important it is to support and promote the art of baking.

The award also offers valuable motivation for the future generation of bakers. The high level of expertise, experience, passion and the feeling for the perfect dough are qualities that are valued throughout the industry. A look at the success story of the Körber bakery shows that craftsmanship and tradition still have a lasting place in the modern age and can win people's hearts.

The State Honorary Award remains an impressive symbol of the quality in Bavaria's bakeries and will certainly inspire many more talented bakers to follow their path.
