Ex-partner stabs 45-year-old: Drama in Ingolstadt shakes the city!
A cruel tragedy occurred in Ingolstadt on Friday evening. A 45-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed with a kitchen knife by her ex-partner. The 49-year-old is suspected of having inflicted the fatal injuries in a heated argument. According to reports from the South German newspaper The woman died in hospital shortly after the attack after her sons, aged 23 and 17, tried to defend her and kick and punch the attacker away from her.
Immediately after the incident, both the victim and the suspect, who also suffered serious injuries, were taken to a clinic. The perpetrator is currently being monitored by the police, while the public prosecutor's office has applied for an arrest warrant, which was issued over the weekend. The suspect remains in the hospital until he can be transferred to a correctional facility.
A worrying increase in femicides
This shocking event reveals the serious problem of femicide in Germany. According to the latest data, an alarming number of 938 women and girls were recorded as victims of attempted and completed femicide in 2023, such as the BR reported. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years. These acts are often the result of hierarchical gender relations, which are an inherent structural dimension of violence against women.
The motives for such acts of violence are complex, but they are usually based on supposed claims of ownership by (ex-)partners. In Ingolstadt, the motive for the terrible crime remains unclear. Investigators have interviewed some witnesses and forensic teams were deployed over the weekend to collect further clues.
A social problem
The issue of femicide and violence against women is often not discussed enough in society. The term itself refers to the killing of a woman because of her gender and represents a serious expression of lack of respect and appreciation for women Federal Agency for Civic Education emphasizes that femicides are not isolated cases, but a systematic problem that affects all levels of society.
In light of this tragedy in Ingolstadt, it is important that we as a society stand together to talk about and combat violence against women. Because only by raising awareness can we hopefully create the conditions that allow women to live lives without fear.
