LEADER funding: 691,000 euros for projects in the Haßberge district!

On November 14, 2025, Daniel-Pascal Klaehre, the LEADER coordinator for Lower Franconia, presented funding checks totaling around 691,000 euros for four important projects in the Haßberge district at the LAG Haßberge e.V. steering group meeting in Haßfurt. This funding comes from the EU LEADER program, which is dedicated to strengthening rural areas and sustainable development.

A highlight of the event was the handover of financial support to the “Way of the Cross Experience Zeil am Main” project. The city of Zeil, represented by the second mayor Marcus Fröhlich, will receive 125,773 euros. The aim of this project is to preserve the historic Way of the Cross with its 12 stations and to develop a modern information concept that particularly appeals to visitors.

Diverse projects for the region

Another funded project is the “Place of Encounter” in Rottenstein, which is supported with 86,462 euros. The municipality of Aidhausen under Mayor Dieter Möhring is taking responsibility for equipping a village community center as well as public relations work, which should include information about the Burgstall.

The “Social Resilience Network in Hofheimer Land” is also getting a boost: 103,481 euros will flow into this project, which is managed by Allianz Hofheimer Land e.V., represented by Mayor Alexander Bergmann and Alliance Manager Philipp Lurz. The creation of a project management position is intended to strengthen social cohesion in seven municipalities over a period of three years.

The largest project in the funding round is the “valorization and reactivation of the old Rottenstein mill”, which is being funded with 375,000 euros. Under the direction of Dr. Florian Maier, represented by architect Renate Schubart-Eisenhardt, the historic mill building is being restored in order to make it accessible to visitors after the renovation.

LEADER: A proven concept

LEADER stands for “Liaison entre actions de développement de l’économie rurale” and has proven to be an important tool for revitalizing rural areas. The LAG Haßberge e.V. plays a central role by acting as the initiator and supporter of the LEADER process in the region. Your commitment and targeted support of such projects are essential for the sustainable future and attractiveness of the district.

The handover of the checks not only represents a financial subsidy, but is also a sign of the region's commitment to innovation and community spirit. It remains to be hoped that these initiatives will further improve the quality of life in the Haßberge district and bring people together.
